Yoga Therapy… everything you need to know.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga.

Yoga therapy is becoming well known in the field of health and wellness,  and is backed by a growing evidence base of research.  A yoga therapist is an experienced yoga teacher with additional training.  This includes bio-medical knowledge and assessment skills.

A yoga therapist works with the individual rather than focusing on the condition.  They are able to draw on a wide range of techniques, such as postures, breath work, meditation, lifestyle counselling or self-development guidance.

Every individual receives a comprehensive assessment and a tailored practice based on their own needs.

Yoga therapy is not just a short term treatment option but a long term lifestyle choice. Yoga Therapists can work with other health professionals and also refer on if care is needed outside of their skills.

How can Yoga Therapy help me?

Yoga Therapy can help in a number of ways:

  • Alleviate stress and anxiety
  • Improve clarity and focus
  • Assist with chronic (ongoing) pain
  • Restore you to health and wellness after an injury or illness
  • Improve posture and flexibility
  • Improve breathing
  • Aid in restful sleep
  • Maintain your general health and wellness

What Yoga Therapy involves:

  1. Initial Consultation and Assessment

Before our first meeting, we may have a chat by phone and you will be required to complete a client information form – this will give me a better picture of your needs and requirements and only takes around 10 minutes to complete.

We will then arrange a time to meet, either at my office in Southport or at your home, where through a series of questions and physical observations we can determine a unique therapeutic practice to meet your needs.

  1. Implementation

Based on the assessment, I will provide you with your individual practice and check in with you after a couple of days to check in with your progress. I will make sure that you understand the practice plan, and outline clearly how you can practice all (or parts) as and when you need to. I will also gage from your feedback what needs to be changed or tweaked, what’s working for you and what isn’t.

  1. Follow up

I will check in with you regularly to assess your progress, and determine the effects on your general wellbeing and specific concerns. In this way, we are able to work together on evolving your practice plan so that it may continue to meet your needs and support your goals.
